Types of research: Quantitative research

  • America

I found that when linking the rating to the gross income it turned out, in this case, that the higher the gross income the higher the rating. Also the rating from all three short films is not reliable due to a small amount of users actually participating in rating it. To make the rating of the short film reliable, there would have to be a large number of users participating in rating the short film. The more the users the more reliable the rating would be.

Box office figures are helpful when thinking about short film because it gives the ability to see how competitors have done. This is important because if their short film has received a poor rating you can start to research, by research i mean look in to the film further such as seeing maybe where they went wrong. What scenes worked and what scenes did not particularly work very well, baring this in mind you can apply the knowledge that you have gained and apply it to your short film.

Hits on a website can be another way to identify how well a short film is doing. Essentially the more hits a website has the more successful it is. Researching websites can help you gain an understanding of what is doing well and what it is not. The best advice from this would be to gain tips from a website that has a lot of hits because clearly they are attracting people and doing something right.

Also, researching the sales of CD's and DVD's can be very useful. The more an item sells the more successful it is. The best advice from this would be to research the best selling DVD's and studying what made them so successful, then you can apply the knowledge you gained from their film into your short film.
